Between our theories for who dies in the finale of The White Lotus S3 (everyone is saying Chelsea, but our money is on Rick tbh) to the US President’s bizarre show-and-tell display, it has been a WEEK on the internet. Thank goodness for beautiful and silly little things, right? We could all use more of them right now. And yet, in times of economic downturn we tend to dress more conservatively — think longer hemlines, buttoned up blazers, muted tones etc. The maxi skirts and demure cardigans you’re seeing everywhere? Not a coincidence given the state of affairs (or so the theory goes).

To counter this, we’ve compiled an edit of accessories (or, as Soph so cleverly calls them, ‘outfit finishers’) that will take your most buttoned-up and basic of basics and turn them into an interesting, expressive and elevated ensemble. Speaking of transformative accessories, Soph and I attended a dinner this week with Hype DC to celebrate the launch of the Salomon XT-Whisper. Both of us were initially unsure how we’d style such a trendy, functional, chunky sneaker (which isn’t really in either of our style wheelhouses), but in the end, it was a good reminder that sometimes accessories can do all the heavy lifting for your outfit — especially if the accessory in question creates some healthy tension with the rest of your outfit (like wearing a hiking sneaker with a mini skirt and a tailored blazer, hehe).

Jewellery to elevate your basics
